Simple morning routines to start your day with intention

What does your ideal morning look like? For most of us, it includes rushing out of bed and running out the door without giving the day ahead much thought. We then start our day or week off by feeling unorganised and rushed, which then leaves us with little to give to those around us.

Why are morning routines important?

Besides helping you start your day on the right foot, there are so many different benefits to having a solid morning routine. You’ll start feeling so much more productive, amongst other things like:

Reduction in stress and anxiety

When you set yourself up with a great morning routine, you’re less likely to feel stressed out and anxious because you know what the start of your day will look like.

Boosts productivity

You’ll automatically feel more productive because you’ll be able to focus on your priorities for the day, rather than feeling disorganised and unprepared.

Supports mental health

A lot of people journal as part of their morning routine, but there are so many other things that you can do that are similar to journaling, like meditation or going for a morning walk. It’s so important to start your day in the right way.

Encourages healthy habits

You could also use this time to exercise so that you get it done for the day or use the spare time you have to make sure that you have a healthy and nutritious breakfast instead of stuffing your face with the easier, more processed options.

Enhances motivation and focus

When you start getting up earlier than the rest of your household, you’ll be able to dedicate time to setting goals and then achieving those goals. For example, if you want to start your own business, but you have no time to work on that in the evenings, you could start off your morning with working on your own personal project.

‘You’ time

You’ll be able to have some ‘you’ time before the distractions of the day begin to creep into your mind. Fill your cup during the quiet hours of the morning, when you can start to hear the birds chirping and before the sun starts to rise.

Healthier sleep

Getting up at the same time each morning helps with sleep consistency, too, helping you feel more rested and energised. Also, if you decide to get up earlier, you’ll probably start going to bed earlier, too, which helps you get the right amount of sleep!

Ideas for your perfect morning routine

Perhaps you’re not quite sure where to start or how to create the perfect morning routine for you. Here are some ideas of things you could try:

  • Journal - write down your thoughts in a journal and set your intentions for the day

  • Gratitude - think of 3 things you’re grateful for

  • Read - start your day with your favourite book and a cup of coffee

  • Meditate

  • Stretch/ yoga

  • Go for a walk

  • Exercise

  • Start that side hustle

  • Start a new hobby

The list of things you can do to fill your morning routine is endless! The key to setting the perfect morning routine is to make sure that you fill it with something you enjoy doing.
There’s no point journaling if you don’t enjoy writing, or reading of you enjoy audio books instead. So, make sure that your morning routine is aligned with your interests.

Having a morning routine helps you to start your day with intention and focus and will automatically put you in a more positive state of mind. Now, you’ll be able to fill your cup, which will help you be the best version of yourself for those around you.
